About Us:
WHEEL DANCE is a federally incorporated Canadian non-profit that provides subsidized social and
competitive Wheelchair Ballroom and Latin dance classes to wheelchair users and their able-bodied
friends, family and community members. WHEEL DANCE is the lead organizing body for Wheelchair
DanceSport in Canada. By creating and supporting communities of Wheelchair Ballroom and Latin
dancers, WHEEL DANCE hopes to enable competitive activity and recognition of the sport by the
Canadian Paralympic Committee, with the goal of building a Canadian presence for Wheelchair
DanceSport internationally. WHEEL DANCE organizes and runs subsidized wheelchair dance classes,
workshops, performances, and demonstrations and has plans to organize national competitions and
teacher training workshops.
About Our Classes:
We provide engaging and fun dance classes designed to introduce social and competitive Ballroom and
Latin Dance to individuals with ambulatory disabilities and their able-bodied partners. Non-wheelchair
using friends, family, and local community members are encouraged to participate. All ages and abilities
are welcome. If you can move your wheelchair in a controlled way, then you can dance! The classes,
each an hour in length, cover the basic elements of partner dancing, with an emphasis on basic patterns,
turns and timing, feeling comfortable moving across the dance floor, and having fun. Partner dancing
increases coordination, strength, endurance, posture, range of motion, and confidence. Join us to
discover the physical, social, and psychological benefits of partner dancing. Performance and
competition opportunities are provided to those interested.
Location: York Region and various locations across the GTA. All facilities are fully accessible. Please
